WHAT IS THE CHANGEMAKER PROJECT?

The Changemaker Project is a global design challenge for young people who want to build a better world. We leverage the passion, enthusiasm, and curiosity that students have and give them the resources and funding they need to take their ideas out into the world.

Each year we host a challenge where students from all over the world compete to win funding for their social and environmental innovation projects.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students form teams (of 2-5) and decide on a real-world problem to tackle. Each team registers for the challenge and gains access to all of our online resources and curriculum. We offer modules about various social and environmental justice issues ranging from climate change to systemic racism to animal exploitation. We also offer lessons on Stanford's Design Thinking process, which helps students create innovative solutions to the problems they're tackling.

Along the way, students are invited to participate in an online discussion forum to connect with participants from around the world. We also set up video calls throughout the year with guest speakers from various disciplines to support student learning and build community among changemakers from across the globe.

In May, all teams submit a 3-minute video showcasing the project they've created and outlining a budget for the funding they need to make it a success. Finalists are chosen, and invited to participate in Global Pitch 2019, where they will pitch their projects to investors and philanthropists in a Shark-Tank-style event for a chance to win funding.

The cost for one team (2-5 students) to participate in The Changemaker Project is $100. This includes access to all of our curriculum as well as a global community of changemakers, and also covers the registration fee for the challenge.

CAN I SUBMIT A PROJECT THAT I CREATED AS PART OF A CLASS?

Absolutely! We encourage students to leverage projects that they are already working on in their courses and utilize the resources of The Changemaker Project to take them further.

CAMPUS AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Would you like to bring The Changemaker Project to your campus? Apply to be a campus ambassador! Campus Ambassadors are the grassroots organizers who promote The Changemaker Project among their networks, present to student groups, and encourage their classmates to participate.

We're looking for students with a passion for social justice, a strong network, good public speaking skills, and excellent organizing abilities. We expect you to spend 2-3 hours/week in the fall semester promoting the program and joining video calls where you'll get to meet ambassadors from other schools around the world.

This is a volunteer position, but like any internship the rewards are high: you'll gain powerful experience as a leader in your community, learn problem-solving and communication skills, get practice public speaking, join a global network of young leaders, receive valuable mentorship, and be responsible for creating a powerful social innovation movement on your very own campus. Best of all, you can still participate in The Changemaker Project yourself!
